How to Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing

DEREK F BUCHANAN • Aug 04, 2020
Bathrooms are the most high-traffic places in your home. From showering, dental hygiene, brushing and styling your hair, you likely spend a lot of time in your bathroom. People often forget the bathroom when it comes to design, and tend to focus on their front rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms first. That said, with a few special touches, your bathroom can serve as a home spa and a relaxing retreat.

Make the most of your bathroom and turn it into a place that you enjoy spending time with these tips.

Colour psychology

When designing your bathroom, it’s useful to consider colour psychology. Different colour schemes will evoke a unique set of moods and emotions. By choosing your colour scheme wisely, you can set the tone for the whole room. Blues, greens, and pale greys are known to be calming, and excellent choices for your bathroom. Avoid loud colours like reds and oranges, which will have the opposite effect on your mood. Experts in bathroom design and installation Hertfordshire can help you create a design with your chosen colours to lay the foundation for your haven of tranquillity.

Natural light

Incorporate as much natural light as you possibly can into your bathroom. It is much more soothing and relaxing than artificial light. Resist the temptation to install harsh fluorescents in your bathroom as they are proven to be hard on the eyes and make you feel tired. They also make the space look clinical, which is the opposite of what you’re going for.

If you can’t add windows or make them bigger, there are a few tricks to add natural light. White surfaces will reflect natural light from your windows, as will mirrors and any glass panels. By using these throughout your space, you will hardly need to use your actual lights at all. Consider putting your lights on a dimmer, so you can create a mood in the evening when you have a bath or use candles instead.

Plants

Bring the outside in and create an oasis in your bathroom with some big, leafy plants. Again, you want to avoid that clinical feel in your bathroom and instead make it feel comfortable. You will need to choose plants that do well in high humidity but also don’t need a tremendous amount of sunlight. The best plants for your bathroom include the Boston Fern, Lucky Bamboo, Orchids and the Peace Lily.

Bring in some music

Don’t forget about the therapeutic effects of sound therapy when it comes to your bathroom. Whether you’re enjoying a bubble bath, a cleansing shower, or simply pampering yourself with a face mask, listen to a soothing melody to create a relaxing mood. When designing your bathroom, you can install waterproof Bluetooth speakers so you can link up to them and listen to your favourite playlists.

Music helps to reduce anxiety and relieve stress after a hard day. It will make you feel happy and positive. Being able to listen to your favourite songs will make you want to spend even more time soaking in the bath in your little at-home retreat.
